So being back into building cosplays, means also being on social media and seeing everyone else's work around the internet. While I was looking for projects to build, I stumbled upon a builder named Danielle from @Whereisdanielle on instagram
I was checking out a post I saw in my feed. It was her really amazing ODST costume project
I was immediately motivated seeing this build, as the entire armor of this cosplay was made with FOAM!
It was really well built, the proportions were excellent and the paint job was well done.
I wanted to build my own ODST right away but at the same time, I didn't want to fall into a personal hype trap.
A hype trap is when you are amped to do a project and you are running on "hype" in your mind.
That is not a sustainable source of motivation and is usually fades a lot of the time with many cosplayers.
That's why projects get abandoned and people move on.
I learned a lesson listening to some prop makers in the past. When they get that initial shock of motivation, they don't strike the iron while it's hot. They wait it out. One person I heard said they waited 3 months before he decided to actually do the project. He realized after 3 months that he still wanted to do it and so it wasn't "hype" anymore, it was pure desire.
Same thing happened to me, I waited it out and then when I thought about it enough, I got started.
I had some issues with scaling the ODST helmet in pepakura designer. I ended up building the helmet a few times.
until I got it where I wanted in terms of proportion.
Once I finally completed the ODST helmet at the right scale, I moved on to the Base torso sections.
I managed to get all the detail parts that connect to the main body of the torso base and I ended up with what you will see in the youtube vlog.
The goal is to build the entire Halo ODST armor in EVA foam. Even the SMG that they use!
That will be really fun to make a foam prop for a change. Can't wait until I get to that part of the build. I'm excited.
In the meantime, check out the first installment for the project vlog series:
